John Wetton Discusses "Phoenix" Lyrics |

John has kindly provided us with some thoughts on the lyrics and history behind his tracks on the new "Phoenix" album. We're sure that you will enjoy them. NEVER AGAIN
This lyric documents my personal odyssey over the last three years. Many astrologers believe we are entering The Age of Gemini, and some hold this more than a little responsible for the drastic change in my perception, and behaviour from June 2005 to the present day. Each night, as I sing the second verse (...'a dazzling creation....') on stage, I cannot escape the startling visual image of Xerxes from the film '300', but the real meat in the sandwich here (as usual) is the chorus, which is really a kind of distilled mantra for The Ten Commandments. The verse itself is upbeat and optimistic, also altruistic, but this becomes triple underlined in the chorus.

The Rockahead Online website has posted their review of the new "Phoenix" album:
To be honest a few years ago I would have said the likelihood of there ever being another album from the original line up of Asia was remote in the extreme. However following a successful reunion tour that started in 2006 here we are with the aptly titled Phoenix album. So what is it like? Well I am happy to say it is an excellent album and in many ways better than the bands second album Alpha which was the last time this particular group of musicians were together in the recording studio. In fact everything about this album from the Roger Dean designed cover artwork through the songs and performance throughout is just right. |

The Metal Invader web site has posted a review of Asia's forthcoming release "Phoenix." Woa, all I can say is woa, the first Asia album to feature all 4 original members – in a quarter of a century…quite a thing eh? Maybe it’s not what the world has been waiting for with baiting breath, but still the band managed to make it’s mark in the 80s on the strength of a few tunes and what…3 albums ? |
