From the This Is Lancashire website: They're back! Their first studio album for 25 years shows that the original line-up of this "supergroup" are still at the height of their powers. Recorded over five months, Phoenix' marks a return of the classic Asia sound with all four members: Steve Howe, John Wetton, Geoff Downes and Carl Palmer, contributing.
As you can expect with this band, there are some out and out rockers such as Never Again' (the opening track), and power ballads like I Will Remember You'. The underlying theme of the album is that of love, discovery and reflection and was no doubt inspired by bass player and lead singer John Wetton's recovery after triple bypass surgery last August.
The album's closing track Extraordinary Life'. Which encapsulates the whole theme is destined to become one of the band's "classic" songs in years to come and also has a message for us all.
Asia have certainly taken their "signature" sound and, whilst remaining faithful to it, has updated it and thereby keeping the band at the forefront of intelligent rock music. |
