I saw ASIA long time ago in 1989 together with the Beach Boys. And I'm happy to see the group 21 years later with the Original Members in Bonn again on the german tour this year. Their music is fantastic. And I like the music from ELP, YES and the BUGGLES too. |

Some concerts are simply *worth* the distance and expense required of their fans. ASIA... Live in Philadelphia, at the Tower Theater... *was* destined to be that legendary show. Now, I live in South Florida - but I realized I just *couldn't* miss this inspired line-up of TWO great progressive collectives on the same stage : YES with very special guest ASIA.
Hearing a NEW song..."An Extraordinary Life"... was this ASIA fan's dream come true. SO many highlights this night... Carl Palmer looked so fresh: His "Fanfare..." drum solo was a BLAST!! John Wetton's BASS improv in "Fanfare" was pure MUSCLE: HE was the Master Bassman tonight! Geoff Downes continues to play with infectious relish - esp."HEAT OF THE MOMENT"! And of course, "The Maestro": Mr. STEVE HOWE... Howe's LOVE of playing the guitar for his fans - and his talent - is jawdropping. I love this music SO much - and the combination of these 4 musicians, led with Wetton's deep, moving choir voice is "The Best" thing I've ever witnessed in over 20 years of (and 150) live shows.
(OH! Did I mention Ian McDonald joined the band onstage, flute in hand, for a FULL rendition of "Court of the Crimson King"?? An Asia FIRST:Live in Philly!)
I've been blessed to see "The Original" ASIA 5 times... Cleveland (2006), Hallandale, FL (2007), Ft. Pierce, FL (2007), Toronto, ON (2007), and now Philadelphia, PA (2009). Go see ASIA in 2010... wherever you have to!! |

This was the third time I've seen the band since the reunion and admittedly only attended the Festival on the strength of Asia being there. Time was ticking away, due to the technical problems that occurred throughout the day and apparently even worse on the night before, but I was mainly there with Liz for the headliners! The boys finally made the stage at 11:10 and the rumours around us were that the show would have to finish by midnight. Each show of theirs we've seen has always been excellent, but they came on with no time to waste and tore through the numbers, starting with Wildest Dreams. I have never seen these guys put so much energy into a show and Steve Howe was leaping around the stage like I've never witnessed before, especially as I've seen Yes many times, so I've seen Steve quite a bit in the past. Due to time constraints they played to 12.30 and every minute was lapped up by the audience. Liz and I were fortunate to be only about six heads from the front, the closest I've ever seen them and were fairly central, slightly off centre from John Wetton, towards Steve Howe. Carl Palmer did his usual wonder thumps and the crowd loved it. I guess all that lacked from a regular show were the other three "solo" tracks. Court Of The Crimson King is one of my all time favourites, but this show was so special, that I didn't mind missing it. There were some stunning versions of Don't Cry (full electric guitar version) and wondrous vocals by John on My Own Time. Although I shall be seeing Yes later in the year, I can't wait for Asia to return again and hopefully with another album as good as Phoenix. |

I went to see Asia at the Cambridge rock festival with my two sons aged 11 & 14 on Sunday night. The guy's came on stage at about 11.10pm but boy it was certainly well worth the wait. It was quite simply a fantastic performance! Superb songs, (Great to hear My Own Time as well). The atmosphere was brilliant & the band were stunning despite the technical glitches. We were standing right at the front of the stage, directly in front of Geoff, and my sons were in total awe of quality of the musicians in front of them. My 11 year old was still doing the HOM singalong the following morning. Thanks Asia for a truly unforgetable evening evening, hopefully we will see you in East Anglia again soon. |

Tonight ASIA put the Cambridge Rock Festival on the map. After a delayed start due to technical problems we were all treated to the usual professional concert we have come to expect from ASIA. It always gives me a wry smile when I speak to people prior to the show the youngsters don’t quite know what to expect and the older people say oh yes didn’t they do ‘Heat of the Moment’, my response is ‘Open your Eyes’ and ‘Here Comes the Feeling.’ After the show these same people are buying up the CD’s etc and are asking for more. As always ASIA we know what to expect from the team, and once again ASIA have delivered the goods. I am looking forward to 2010. |

Astonishing! Absolutely mesmerizing. ASIA live at the Cambridge Rock Festival via Radio Caroline was intense. Technical problems right up to the very last minute raised my stress level to a physician-worrying level. Then the techies came through. We heard a broadcast which conveyed the realities of a live performance. It was so clear hearing the band get their legs as they performed. Four powerful and distinctive musicians synchronized and evolved before our ears. I had my keyboard near and joined in regularly. What a sensation to play with ASIA live! |

The crowd gathered at Moondance for the last two bands of the night was noticeably smaller than it was on the two previous nights, but that didn’t stop Asia from delivering a charged set of their famous pop tinged progressive rock. With four studio albums to draw from, along with songs from each band member’s previous musical history (Asia is a supergroup after all), the songs were chosen carefully. “Wildest Dreams” opened the set, but it was the second song “Only Time Will Tell” that drew large applause from the crowd as Geoff Downes took ownership of his position surrounded by nine keyboards. The moody track also gave vocalist John Wetton a chance to show off the fact that his husky voice is still intact. A new song from the previous year’s album Phoenix followed, shortly before Wetton took the microphone (and the megaphone) for “Video Killed the Radio Star”, a hit song penned by Downes during his tenure with The Buggles.
The instrumental piece “Fanfare for the Common Man“, a staple at the group’s live shows, gave way into a drum solo by Carl Palmer. Shining throughout the set and particularly during the solo, Palmer’s aggressive drumming ability at the age of 59 is nothing short of stunning. Guitar master Steve Howe keeps a much lower profile on stage, and although he may not always show it, he is surely excited about being on the road with both of his bands. He drew yells of “Steve!” from die-hard fans in the crowd throughout the show. The only disappointment during the set was an acoustic version of “Don’t Cry” - an amped up version of the song would have suited the festival much better. Cheers were loud, however, for the signature piece “Heat of the Moment“, which saw Geoff Downes suddenly removing the top element of his stacked keyboards to reveal a shiny white keytar. The rest of the song saw the band more active on stage than ever before, almost as if a game of “follow the keytar” was in progress. It was the last song of course, so even the very reserved Howe kicked it up a notch in enthusiasm and delivery. Asia stood a fragmented band for two decades after their breakup around 1985, but everything seems right once again now that all four founders of the band are once again giving the world a taste of technical proficiency and great music. Yes and ASIA played at the South Shore Music Circus tent in Massachusetts on a wonderful Saturday night. It was theater in the round. John Wetton and the boys pumped and primed to play. You could tell they were surprised when the stage started to spin when Geoff Downes couldn't stop smiling. Asia opened up with Wildest Dreams and never looked back. They played all their big hits from the first album, two from the second. In the court from John's King Crimson days, Video killed the radio star from Geoff's Buggles days, and Fanfare for the common man from Carl Palmer's ELP days. The only song from Phoenix was An Extraordinary Life. A fine song but they should included Never Again a great rocking song. ASIA was opening for Yes With Steve Howe pulling double duty on the guitar. His playing is always brilliant. Yes Benoit David (from Canada) on Vocals and Oliver (son of Rick) Wakeman on keyboards. This line up was just as good as any with Jon Anderson. I know some fans do not want to hear it but they were able to play songs I never heard them play before. Songs from the Yes album to Drama. If they are coming near you please check this out. |

Is it possible that Asia could surpass their past five New York City area performances playing a set that was half the length of those they did before? Surprisingly, (no pun intended) yes. In addition to the band being tighter than ever, each musician moved beyond where they'd been before. John's vocals were stupendous, and it seemed he hit notes that were more in the range of his younger, 1982 self than where he is today. While barely containing his exceptional bass playing to the parameters of Asia's tunes he still let loose rips that promised further greatness. As usual, Steve's effortless looking guitar work belayed his true skills as he danced musically through the ten short songs the band played; and while he knew he'd be back for the second, longer Yes performance he nonetheless played full out holding nothing back. Geoff, well was Geoff playing his normally exceptional keyboards and the only criticism I have of Carl was that there was not enough of him. While Carl's solo during "Fanfare ..." blew away most of those he's done with Asia in the past, we still needed more of him to round out the Asia experience. While the song list covered only covered ten songs, they were well chosen and only left the audience wanting more. Hopefully Asia will be back on the East Coast, sooner than later, and we'll get a full length show from them. |

I went to the concert in Montclair, NJ on July 29, 2009. It was awesome. My 2 younger children took me out for my birthday. It was a great present. I truly appreciate the talents of the players in both bands. For ASIA, Geoff was great on handling multiple keyboards at once. Steve was great on guitars. I enjoyed the acoustic as much as electric. Carl really impressed me on drums with the solo on "Fanfare for the common man." It sounds as if he is recovered from his heart procedure. John sounded great on vocals. When John stated how lucky is is to be alive, it was heartfelt. I had a life-saving operation 17 years ago. I certainly understand how he feels. I hope ASIA does another album and stays together for many more years. When/if they tour again, I would definitely go to see tham again. |

I have never seen Asia in concert, but have been a fan since my teenage years in the 80s. I had the best seats in the house for this concert: Front row center. All I can say is more, more, more! For the whole show I was thrown back to memories of being a teenager and buying my first Asia CDs. The band rocked the house with everyone wanting more. Asia is a group of top notch musicians and performers that, after decades, can still rock to their progressive beat at the highest level. |

I think the cosmic level of Asia's musicianship, the crystal-clear live mix, and the astral stylings of Yes have already been reviewed a lot here. With the musical ground covered, I decided to send my impressions of a concert experience few people can say they've had.
My friend and I attended the LA show and were fortunate to have Asia VIP passes. We had a marvelous time that I'll surely cherish as long as I live. When Carl Palmer bounded out to meet us, I think that is the closest anyone can ever come to meeting the real Tigger in person. Now there is an animated character! It was also an absolute privilege to meet the gracious Geoff Downes, after absorbing the Buggles/Asia repertoire for the first time and being inspired enough to envision an animated story based on one of the songs. That evening, Messrs. Palmer and Downes spoke with us at some length about their musical adventures and ours in animation art. I'm very glad I had the opportunity to meet them, and I hope that sometime soon I shall be able to meet Messrs. Wetton and Howe as well. Thanks, guys. “Extraordinary” is the word, I think… |

Two words – Too Short! Last night’s concert at the Tower Theater by “Super Group” Asia was outstanding! As they opened for Yes, the guys came out and put on a rock show in 60 minutes which left us fans begging for more. John’s voice was strong as ever, Steve’s guitar playing amazes me every time I see him, Geoff’s flying from one keyboard to the next, and Carl’s “work-out” on the drums was intense. They had little time, but went from one hit to another. It was good to hear a song from Phoenix and the acoustical versions were a nice change. I’m always glad to see Asia perform (2008 in Harrisburg and 2006 in Jim Thorpe, PA) – I prefer them as a headliner, but I’ll take their music any way I can get it. Thanks for another great performance and keep on rocking!

The July 29th show at the Wellmont Theatre was so incredible that I cannot sleep. I had to write this review. The crowd was into every song. I finally saw Asia Live!!! I missed the tour in 1982 because it sold out so fast. This show more than made up for that disappointment.
John Wetton sounded great! Steve Howe was magnificent on guitar! Carl Palmer is without a doubt the best drummer I've ever seen or heard! His drum solo displayed his Incredible skills. The drum solo blew me away! Geoff Downes tore up the keyboards. He electrified the crowd with his one of a kind sound and style!
I enjoyed hearing some of the classics: Heat of The Moment, Only Time Will Tell, and Sole Survivor. I also loved the version of The Smile Has Left Your Eyes. Fanfare For the Common Man was great to hear as they featured Carl Palmer on the drums. I really liked hearing An Extraordinary life from the latest album Phoenix.
I hope to catch another show in the near future. I wish Asia played longer! I strongly recommend that you make it to one of the shows on this tour. |

I live in a dead zone (N.C.)regarding progressive music. The zone starts at Richmond and is dead all the way south to Atlanta. Any time I want to see anyone (Yes, Asia, Steve Hackett, The Musical Box, Pat Metheny) I come to Philly or the DC area. Again, well worth the trip. ASIA continues to blow me away, seen them 3 times now since the reunion. I want more from Phoenix and I want another new album. You guys are simply stunning, each and every one. Carl, you are a BEAST ! Asia's mix was perfect, and what a TREAT to see Ian McDonald ! I never thought I'd see him. Keep it up guys, you get better with age. |

I have been as Asia fan for many years. The show at the South Shore Circus at Cohasset was fantastic. From the opening song until the “heat of the moment” encore, the boys were definitely playing at their best. I only wish their set was longer. Asia is like a fine wine; it gets better with age. Saw Asia at the Great Adventure theme park, and although it was an odd venue, they are playing better than ever. The downside of this tour is that they only get to play the hits. I would love to hear more from "Phoenix" or some of the deeper cuts they have been playing when they have the night to themselves, such as "Daylight" and "Open Your Eyes." Even though the Yes portion of the night got canceled after 5 songs, Asia more than made up for it. |

We just saw Asia at Great Adventure, Jackson, New Jersey. The show was electrifying! Mostly because of the thousand or so bolts of lightning that were racing across the sky during the performance! The light show notwithstanding, the concert was great. John's voice sounded great, he hit every note easily. We loved the trip back in time as they played songs from the other bands they were in. (Fanfare by ELP, Crimson King by K.C., and of course Video Killed the Radio Star!) Everyone played and sounded great! |

Asia’s set was fantastic. I saw them a couple years ago at Foxwoods in Connecticut. They sound even better now. The highlight was their version of Fanfare for the Common Man including Carl Palmer’s drum solo. He’s still amazing! It was great to hear a King Crimson song live was well. Kudos to Steve Howe for playing with Asia and Yes with no breaks during the sets while even giving the rest of the band a break while playing acoustically. Hope to see them again. I regret not signing up for the VIP experience. |

It's been a few weeks now, but I still have vivid memories of the ASIA / YES double bill that I attended on July 2nd in San Francisco. They played at THE WARFIELD, where I recall seeing ASIA some 20 years ago. YES has been my favorite group for 35 years, and I have enjoyed every incarnation of the band. The bottom line is that these guys can still play "lights out", and they seem to be enjoying themselves. My favorite part of the ASIA set was their selection of songs. It was a good choice to play songs from the members' other musical experiences. "IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING" was a real high point; I didn't know if I would ever hear that song live again! A double bill of Steve Howe at his best is how I would best describe the evening. He was relaxed, focused and did a terrific job. On the YES side of things, I was quite impressed with Benoit David. He adds a very positive energy and strikes the right balance of providing great vocals with his own slight adjustments. I was surprised that I could enjoy a YES show so much without beloved Jon Anderson present. I missed Jon, but not because Benoit David was lacking. Rick Wakemen's son Oliver plays the music well, but lacks his father's stage presence. Chris Squire & Alan White were terrific, as usual. I hope that this double bill tour continues on for quite some time, and that they will return to California soon! |

Wow! What an experience. Having been too young to see ASIA in the early 80's, this was a dream come true! I only wish they could've played longer. I had the pleasure of meeting Carl & Geoff before the show. Even though they were meeting a group of complete strangers they couldn't have been more polite and accommodating. I could go on and on, but I think the other reviews have said it all. Here's hoping they come back soon and play an entire set. |

Once again ASIA proved that they love to play as much as the fans crave to take in all they can. The energy the band members displayed was just amazing. I was lucky enough to have a V.I.P. pass and was able to meet Geoff Downes and Carl Palmer.. Geoff and Carl are such down to earth people and it was an honor meeting them. Great show at Pine Knob on the 20th of July. The band was great. The crowd did not seem to grasp the magnitude of having ASIA and Yes together. What a thrill and what a show. The sound was great. People in the audience were freaking with King Crimson and other treats that came throughout the show. I hope they do this again next year as I will be out plugging for what was a class act and terrific show. Musically it doesn't get much better than ASIA and YES! |

My wife and I drove over three hours to see ASIA perform live, …we were not disappointed. This show marked the 150th performance since the reunion of the four original members of ASIA.
The band started off strong, and never once relented throughout a magnificent concert. ASIA flawlessly delivered, as evidenced by the satisfied reactions of the large crowd. Bass master John Wetton’s heartfelt vocals were clear and strong. Steve Howe owns his signature sound; his guitar magic was a treat. A solid performance from Geoff Downes, manning his always impressive armament of keyboards, culminated with his keytar fanatics during the finale. Carl Palmer pounded the skins with precision and power. The drum solo rocked.
This was a shorter set list. The classics were complimented with the inclusion of “An Extraordinary Life”, from the new album “Phoenix”.
The VIP Experience was excellent. John, Geoff, and Carl were gracious gentlemen, signing autographs and posing for photographs, while chatting with grateful fans. Thank you ASIA! |

I have been waiting for Asia to come back to Pittsburgh for quite a few years. It happened last night. The entire set was fantastic. Too short though. The time should have been split down the middle. Although I wouldn't have minded if it was all Asia. Every time I see Carl Palmer I am amazed. He can hang with any drummer in the world. I hope that the boys tour again on their own. They were just as good as back in the '80's. |

I just want to say that my girlfiend and I saw Asia (with Yes) in San Francisco earlier this month. For whatever reasons, I had low expectations. We saw them at the Warfield. Asia was AMAZINGLY GOOD. They did a short set that left us wanting more... John's voice was incredible and it was astounding how good they sounded. I have always loved Steve and his playing... but Geoffrey Downes and Carl Palmer.... man... what a treat. So often you see these bands from yester-year and they leave at least a little to be desired. We left wishing they would do a tour all by themselves of the U.S. We would be there in a heart beat! |
